Click here to read a recent article reported on May 21, 2001 on the National Post.com - Note : as of January 1, 2003 this link is dead.

Here's the text of the article

Hogan's Heroes have escaped the land of television reruns and are headed for the big screen. Revolution Studios has reached a deal to make a movie version of the '60s sitcom, previously in the hands of the defunct Destination Films, Variety reported Friday. "You try to think of movies that you grew up with and loved," said Revolution partner Tom Sherak, who will be executive producer. "Things like Stalag 17 or The Great Escape. We want Hogan's Heroes to be a smart movie for everyone." The original series, which aired from 1965 to '71, starred Bob Crane as Colonel Robert Hogan, a U.S. flyer in Nazi prison camp Stalag 13. Other '60s TV shows that have been reincarnated as feature films in recent years include The Beverly Hillbillies, Leave It to Beaver, The Flintstones and Car 54, Where Are You?

Mini-Interview (this will be an occasional feature)

This month's interviewee is Bob Nippert - webmaster of the Hogan's Heroes Fan Club website

Hogan's Heroes Fan Club (HHFC) - Didn't Brenda Scott Royce start the Hogan's Heroes Fan Club?

Bob Nippert (BN) - Yes she did. She wrote two great books on Hogan's Heroes and put together the Hogan's Heroes Fan Club which included 10 printed newsletters over a several year period and she put together the first version of the Hogan's Heroes Fan Club website. (Editor's note - Brenda - Thanks for sharing all your hard work on Hogan's Heroes with the rest of us - I hope that Hogan's Heroes Fan Club website will be another leg on the journey.)

HHFC - How did you get involved running the new Hogan's Heroes Fan Club Website at http://www.hogansheroesfanclub.com?

BN - Good question! I've been a Hogan's Heroes Fan since the mid seventies and after I read Brenda Scott Royce's book on Hogan's Heroes - I knew that I wanted to do something to share my interest in Hogan's Heroes on the web (plus, I wanted to practice my web programming skills). If I recall correctly - I think that Brenda was winding down the Hogan's Heroes Fan Club newsletter during 2000 and I contacted her indicating that I would like to put out a new website for the Hogan's Heroes Fan Club. She agreed to have me do that and said that she would play the role of occasional reviewer of the site and to provide insight into Hogan's Heroes as she has a wealth of knowledge on the subject.

HHFC - What tools do you use to put the site together?

BN - I primarily use Dreamweaver 4.0 but also Front Page 2000. My favorite coding tool though is Textpad - a nice little text editor from http://www.textpad.com

HHFC - I've noticed that you have a lot of information on the collectibles on the site. Where can I get Hogan's Heroes Collectibles?

BN - Another tough question! There seems to be a lot of Hogan's Heroes Memorabilia on EBAY and also some on the Yahoo and Amazon.com auction sites. The other place that I look for books in Barnes and Noble.com (http://www.bn.com) - they have the ability to check a whole host of local book sellers. This is a good place to look for the out of print books about Hogan's Heroes. For instance - I got a signed copy of Leon Askin's book for $30.

HHFC - How often do you update the site?

BN - As often as I can. It depends on whether I have any content to add or want to make a change. Right now I have a good deal of material to post to the site just waiting in the queue. If you want to help - please contact me - admin@hogansheroesfanclub.com

For an upcoming issue - I hope to do a small interview with Brenda Scott Royce - the author of two Hogan's Heroes books and the founder of the Hogan's Heroes Fan Club.

Other issues may include interviews with Robert Clary (played Louis Lebeau), Larry Hovis (Played Andrew Carter), Leon Askin (played General Burkhalter)......

We need your help!

Getting the site to be linked from other Hogan's Heroes Sites. If you run a Hogan's Heroes site - would you please set up a link to the Hogan's Heroes Fan Club website ( http://www.hogansheroesfanclub.com). I will gladly add your Hogan's Heroes related link to the links section of the site.
